(CEP News) - The Bank of Japan on Monday reported an annual 1.8% increase in bank lending including trusts for August, matching July's 1.8% rise.
Excluding trusts, lending advanced 2.0% on the year, matching the previous month's gain, and adjusted bank lending rose 2.4%, below previous month's 2.5% gain. Earlier last week, Japanese capital spending decreased far more than expected for the second quarter, by 6.5% despite expectations for a 0.9% increase and against a 4.9% decline in the first quarter. Capital spending excluding software also took a deeper dive than expected, decreasing by 7.5% against the forecast for a 1.0% decrease and last month's decrease of 5.3%. By Megan Ainscow,
