(CEP News) - Japanese core machine orders (excluding ships and utilities) expanded an annual 9.7% in June, beating forecasts for a 2.6% increase and the previous month's 5.1% gain, the Cabinet Office reported on Thursday.
In month-over-month terms, core orders posted a 2.6% month-over-month contraction also outpacing the consensus for a 9.9% decrease, however short of the previous month's 10.4% rise. Meanwhile, total orders rose 4.9% year-over-year compared to the 3.6% increase reported in May, while monthly orders pulled back 4.8%, short of the previous month's 10.8% gain. Month-over-month manufacturing orders rose 13.8% after falling 1.0% in May while non-manufacturing orders rose 12.4%, outpacing previous month's 10.5% increase. By Erik Kevin Franco,
