(CEP News) - Japanese data dominates the macroeconomic landscape on Thursday evening with CPI figures at the forefront.
Tokyo CPI for June, excluding food and energy, is expected to increase 0.2% from year-ago levels. Meanwhile, the headline index is expected to increase 1.2%. The annualized core CPI for May at the national level is expected to come in flat. Economists at Barclays Capital expect the nationwide CPI excluding perishables (core CPI) to rise 1.4% year-over-year in May, up from the April reading of 0.9%, due largely to the reinstatement of the provisional gasoline tax, which had temporarily expired in April. The Japanese jobless rate for May is expected to come in at 4.0%, as it did in April. Friday morning, Reserve Bank of Australia Assistant Governor Guy Debelle is set to speak in Sydney at the Australia Debt Markets Conference on the subject of 'Open Markets Operations'.
