(CEP News) - Australia's construction sector plummeted in September, hitting it's lowest level this year. The Australia Industry Group's performance of construction index saw a fall to 31.8 from 43.1 in August on Monday.
The sharpest decline was seen in commercial construction, falling by 22 points to 35.1 in August. In close second was the deliveries index, down by 21.8 points to 32.4. The only index showing expansion - meaning coming in above 50 points - was the input prices category, increasing to 91.8 from 87.0. The performance of construction index is a national composite index "based on the diffusion indexes for activity, orders/new business, deliveries and employment with varying weights." An index above 50 points indicates construction is expanding, whereas below 50 indicates construction is in decline. By Megan Ainscow,
