(CEP News) - Australia's construction sector bumped up in August, the third straight increase since May, according to AiG's performance of Australian construction index. The index scored a reading of 43.1 following July's 41.6 level.
The sharpest increase in the sub-components was seen in deliveries, which increased from 41.2 in July to 54.2 in August. The activity index decreased to 40.3 from 42.2 and the new orders index also decreased, to 37.9 from 39.9 in July. The employment index aided the increase, boosting to 45.9 from 43.2 the month prior. Input prices decreased to 87.0 from 90.9 in July. The performance of construction index is a national composite index "based on the diffusion indexes for activity, orders/new business, deliveries and employment with varying weights." An index above 50 points indicates construction is expanding, whereas below 50 indicates construction is in decline. By Megan Ainscow,
