(CEP News) - Data on the Australian labour market and Japanese machine orders will be the key releases during the Asia Pacific session.
Australian employment is expected to fall by 25,000 jobs in March after three straight months of unexpected gains. ANZ Bank economist Riki Polygenis said that with a slowing economy, lower corporate profits and anecdotal evidence of company layoffs, "Australian employment is due for a correction." "To date, however, this has not been forthcoming," he said. Other available data show that job openings are scarce. ANZ Bank's measure of job advertisements fell 8.5% in March - its eleventh straight decline. "We expect this to more clearly show up in actual jobs data this Thursday," UBS economist George Tharenou said. Earlier in the session, Japanese machine orders will be released. Economists expect machine orders to fall 6.9% month-over-month in February. All times in EDT.
