(CEP News) Frankfurt - Downward revisions were seen in the European Central Bank's staff projections for both GDP and CPI growth within the euro zone, ECB President Jean-Claude Trichet said during his monthly press conference.
According to the projections, the euro zone economy will grow at an average rate of between 1.1% and 1.7% this year, before rising to a growth rate of between 1.6% and 1.8% in 2009. Staff projections were also revised down to show HICP growth in the monetary union averaging between 3.4% and 3.6% in 2008 before slowing to between 2.3% and 2.9% for the following year.
