(CEP News) Frankfurt - On Thursday, Eurostat reported that the unemployment rate in the euro zone remained stable at 7.3% in June, unchanged from May's revised reading. Economists had expected no change to May's pre-revised 7.2% rate.
"Eurostat estimates that 16.322 million men and women in the EU27, of which 11.352 million in the euro area, were unemployed in June 2008," a press release from the statistics agency elaborated. "Compared with May 2008, the number of persons unemployed increased by 15 000 and 58 000 respectively." Among the member states for which there is data, the highest unemployment rate was seen in Spain at 10.7%. On the other hand, the Netherlands registered the lowest unemployment rate in June with a figure of 2.8%. By Todd Wailoo,
