(CEP News) Frankfurt - Following his introductory remarks, European Central Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet stressed that "absolutely everything is taken into account" when making monetary policy decisions.
Trichet stressed that it was "necessary to raise rates today" and that euro zone citizens needed to know that the ECB was a reliable institution. The ECB president also emphasized that the central bank needed to be as predictable as possible in its actions and that if there was a message to be communicated, the central bank would do so in a clear manner.
