(CEP News) Frankfurt - UK retail sales fell by 0.1% in October, notably less than the 0.9% decline expected after sales levels slipped 0.5% previously, the Office for National Statistics reported on Thursday. Meanwhile, September's figure was revised down from an initial estimate of -0.4%.
According to the ONS, the monthly fall was principally due to a lower number of household goods stores. On an annualized basis, retail sales increased 1.9% in October, overshadowing the 1.4% gain expected, according to the ONS. In the 12 months to September, retail sales had gained 1.7%, revised down from an initial estimate of 1.8%. By Todd Wailoo,
