(CEP News) - According to the U.S. Institute for Supply Management (ISM), the Milwaukee manufacturing index slipped one point to 43 in August, compared to July's reading of 44.
The manufacturing index came in slightly below the consensus expectation of 44. The prices paid index decreased to 63 from the previous month's level of 74. New orders fell to a reading of 40 from a previous level of 44 while the production index rose to 37 in August from July's 34 reading. Inventories rose to 55 in August from July's reading of 48. The report noted a drop in white-collar employment to a level of 48 from July's reading of 52, while blue-collar employment slipped to 42 from 52 in July. An index reading above 50 indicates that the number of manufacturers who said business has improved was greater that those who said that it had deteriorated. By Stephen Huebl,
