(CEP News) - Regional and state unemployment rates took a turn for the worse in October compared to September, with rates up dramatically compared to one year ago, according to data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics on Friday.
Regional and state unemployment rates were "mostly higher" in October, as 38 states and the District of Columbia recorded over-the-month unemployment rate increases, 5 states registered decreases, and 7 states had no change. Over the year, jobless rates were up in 47 states and the District of Columbia, unchanged in two states, and had improved in just one state. The national unemployment rate was 6.5% in October, having advanced four-tenths of the month and by 1.7% over the year. Nonfarm payrolls fell in 40 states during the month. By Patrick McGee,
