(CEP News) - A weekly index of consumer comfort continued its decline in the week ending May 28, falling further to -51, a low not seen since 1992, according to the Washington Post and ABC News.
In the previous week, the survey came in at -49. The survey has been below -40 for the past six weeks. The state of the economy reading fell to -80 while the buying climate reading remained unchanged at -62. The personal finance category fell to -10, a 4-point decline from the previous week. The release of the Washington Post/ABC Consumer Comfort survey follows today's release of the U.S. Conference Board's consumer confidence index. The index fell to a 16 year low of 57.2 in May, down from the previous month's upwardly revised reading of 62.3. By Steve Stecyk,
