CFTC Commitments of Traders – Bets for Higher Commodity Prices Increased Across the Board

According to the CFTC Commitments of Traders report for the week ended October 29, NET LENGTH for crude oil futures soared +17 175 contracts to 388 347 for the week. Speculative long positions added +3 291 contracts while shorts slumped -13 884 contracts. For refined oil products, NET LENGTH for gasoline soared +19 114 contracts to 81 042, while NET SHORT for heating oil declined -5 253 contracts to 150 for the week. NET SHORT for natural gas futures plummeted -23 430 contracts to 185 647 contracts for the week.

NET LENGTH for gold futures rose 17 383 contracts to 276 515. Speculative long positions gained +12 506 contracts, while shorts fell -4 877. Silver futures saw increase in NET LENGTH, by +6 935 contracts to 53 678. Speculative long positions rose +5 621 contracts while shorts slipped -1 314. For PGMs, NET LENGTH of Nymex platinum futures soared +6 581 contracts to 42 297 while that for palladium added +173 contracts to 13 258.
