CFTC Commitments of Traders – Crude Oil’s Increase in NET LENGTH Moderated as Price Entered Fourth-Week Rally

According to the CFTC Commitments of Traders report for the week ended December 24. NET LENGTH for crude oil futures gained +13 700 contracts to 550 077 for the week. Speculative long positions added +13 189 contracts while shorts dropped -511 contracts. For refined oil products, NET LENGTH for gasoline slipped -840 contracts to 14 272, while that for heating oil gained +3 553 contracts to 3 046. NET SHORT for natural gas futures fell -1 806 contracts to 198 918 contracts for the week.

NET LENGTH for gold futures rose +19 377 contracts to 305 652. Speculative long positions gained +19 817 contracts, while shorts added +440. Silver futures’ NET LENGTH rose 16 641 contracts to 62 422. Speculative long positions added +12 815 contracts while shorts fell -3 826. For PGMs, NET LENGTH of Nymex platinum futures gained +2 216 contracts to 56 492 while that for palladium decreased -1 997 contracts to 11 007.
