EUR/USD Weekly Outlook

EUR/USD stayed in consolidation last week and outlook is unchanged. Initial bias remains neutral this week first. Stronger recovery cannot be ruled out. But upside should be limited by 1.1851 resistance to bring fall resumption. Decline from 1.2555 is still in progress. Firm break of 1.1507 will send EUR/USD through 50% retracement of 1.0339 to 1.2555 at 1.1447 to 61.8% retracement at 1.1186.

In the bigger picture, EUR/USD was rejected by 38.2% retracement of 1.6039 (2008 high) to 1.0339 (2017 low) at 1.2516. And, a medium term top was formed at 1.2555 already. Decline from there should extend further to 61.8% retracement of 1.0339 to 1.2555 at 1.1186 and below. For now, even in case of rebound, we won't consider the fall from 1.2555 as finished as long as 1.1995 resistance holds.

In the long term picture, the rejection from 38.2% retracement of 1.6039 to 1.0339 at 1.2516 argues that long term down trend from 1.6039 (2008 high) might not be over yet. EUR/USD is also held below decade long trend line resistance. Focus will now turn to 1.1553 support. Sustained break there would raise the chance of retesting 1.0339 low. It's early to tell, but the chance of long term bullish reversal is fading.

USD/JPY Weekly Outlook

USD/JPY's breach of 110.89 last week suggests that rebound from 108.10 is resuming. Initial bias stays mildly on the upside this week for 111.39 high. Break there will also resume the rise from 104.62 and target 114.73 key resistance. However, below 110.05 will turn bias to the downside for 109.36 to extend the corrective pattern from 111.39.

In the bigger picture, at this point, we're slightly favoring the case that corrective decline from 118.65 (2016 high) has completed with three waves down to 104.62. Above 111.39 will affirm this view and target 114.73 for confirmation. However, it should be noted that USD/JPY is bounded in medium term falling channel from 118.65 (2016 high). Sustained break of 61.8% retracement of 104.62 to 111.39 at 107.20 will likely resume the fall from 118.65 through 104.62 low.

In the long term picture, the rise from 75.56 (2011 low) long term bottom to 125.85 top is viewed as an impulsive move, no change in this view. Price actions from 125.85 are seen as a corrective move which could still extend. In case of deeper fall, downside should be contained by 61.8% retracement of 75.56 to 125.85 at 94.77. Up trend from 75.56 is expected to resume at a later stage for above 135.20/147.68 resistance zone.

GBP/USD Weekly Outlook

GBP/USD edged lower to 1.3048 last week but recovered since then. Initial bias is neutral this week for consolidation first. Upside of recovery should be limited by 1.3314 resistance to bring fall resumption. Below 1.3048 will resume the fall from 1.4376 and target 61.8% retracement of 1.1946 to 1.4376 at 1.2875 first. However, break of 1.3314 will bring stronger rebound back to 1.3471 key resistance.

In the bigger picture, whole medium term rebound from 1.1936 (2016 low) should have completed at 1.4376 already, with trend line broken firmly, on bearish divergence condition in daily MACD, after rejection from 55 month EMA (now at 1.4179). 61.8% retracement of 1.1936 (2016 low) to 1.4376 at 1.2874 is the next target. We'll pay attention to the reaction from there to asses the chance of long term down trend resumption. For now, outlook will stay bearish as long as 1.3471 resistance holds, even in case of strong rebound.

In the longer term picture, rise from 1.1946 (2016 low) is viewed as a corrective move, no change in this view. Rejection from 55 month EMA argues that it might be completed already. Larger down trend from 2.1161 (2007 high) could extend to a new low. This will now be the preferred case as long as 1.4376 resistance holds.

USD/CHF Weekly Outlook

USD/CHF tried to break 0.9989 resistance last week but failed and reversed. Initial bias is neutral this week first. The development suggests that price action from 0.9787 is a corrective pattern. That is, the fall from 1.0056, which itself is a correction too, isn't completed. On the downside, break of 0.9855 will turn bias to the downside for 0.9787 and below. Nonetheless, we'd expect strong support from 0.9722/4 cluster support (38.2% retracement of 0.9186 to 1.0056 at 0.9724, 100% projection of 1.0056 to 0.9787 from 0.9991 at 0.9722) to bring rebound. On the upside, firm break of 0.9991 will target a test on 1.0056 high.

In the bigger picture, rise from 0.9186 is seen as a leg inside the long term range pattern. For now, further rise is expected as long as 38.2% retracement of 0.9186 to 1.0056 at 0.9724 holds. Above 1.0056 will target 1.0342 (2016 high). In that case, we'd be cautious on strong resistance from 1.0342 to limit upside. However, sustained break of 0.9724 will dampen this bullish view and would at least bring deeper fall to 61.8% retracement at 0.9518.

In the long term picture, price actions from 0.7065 (2011 low) are not clearly impulsive yet. Thus, we'll treat it as developing into a corrective pattern, at least, until a firm break of 1.0342 resistance.

AUD/USD Weekly Outlook

AUD/USD edged lower to 0.7322 last week but failed to sustain below 0.7328 cluster support (61.8% retracement of 0.6826 to 0.8135 at 0.7326). Initial bias is neutral this week for consolidations first. As long as 0.7443 resistance holds, further decline is expected. Break of 0.7322 will target 61.8% projection of 0.8135 to 0.7411 from 0.7676 at 0.7229 next. Though, break of 0.7443 resistance will suggest short term bottoming and bring stronger rebound back towards 0.7676 resistance.

In the bigger picture, medium term rebound from 0.6826 is seen as a corrective move that should be completed at 0.8135. Deeper decline would be seen back to retest 0.6826 low. This will now remain the favored case as long as 0.7676 resistance holds.

In the longer term picture, 0.6826 is seen as a long term bottom. Rise from there could either reverse the down trend from 1.1079, or just develop into a corrective pattern. At this point, we're favoring the latter. And, as long as 38.2% retracement of 1.1079 to 0.6826 at 0.8451 holds, we'd anticipate another decline through 0.6826 at a later stage. But strong support should be seen between 0.4773 (2001 low) and 0.6008 (2008 low).

USD/CAD Weekly Outlook

USD/CAD edged higher to 1.3385 last week but formed a short term top there and retreated Initial bias is now on the downside this week for deeper fall pull to 1.3067 resistance turned support. For now, we'd expect downside to be contained there to bring rebound. However, firm break there will bring deeper decline to channel support (now at 1.2825). On the upside, above 1.3258 minor resistance will bring retest of 1.3385.

In the bigger picture, as long as channel support (now at 1.2825) holds, we'll holding to the bullish view. That is, fall from 1.4689 (2015 high) has completed at 1.2061, ahead of 50% retracement of 0.9406 (2011 low) to 1.4689 (2015 high) at 1.2048. Further rally should be seen for 61.8% retracement of 1.4689 to 1.2061 at 1.3685 and above.

In the longer term picture, corrective fall from 1.4689 (2015 high) should have completed with three waves down to 1.2061, just ahead of 50% retracement of 0.9406 (2011 low) to 1.4689 (2015 high). The development keeps long term up trend from 0.9406) and that from 0.9056 (2007 low) intact. It's early to tell, but there is now prospect of extending the long term up trend to 61.8% projection of 0.9406 to 1.4689 from 1.2061 at 1.5326 in medium to long term.

GBP/JPY Weekly Outlook

GBPJPY dropped to 143.76 last week but rebounded ahead of 143.18. As upside is limited below 146.63 minor resistance, initial bias is neutral this week first. On the upside, break of 146.63 will target a test on 148.10 resistance first. Decisive break there will be a strong signal of near term reversal. Further rally would be seen to 149.99 resistance for confirmation. On the downside, break of 148.13 will extend the fall from 156.59 for 139.25/47 cluster support level.

In the bigger picture, no change in the view that decline from 156.59 is a corrective move. In case of another fall, strong support should be seen above 139.29 cluster support (50% retracement of 122.36 to 156.59 at 139.47) to contain downside and bring rebound. Meanwhile, break of 153.84 should confirm that the correction is completed and target 156.59 and above to resume the medium term up trend.

In the longer term picture, the failure to sustain above 55 month EMA (now at 153.56) is mixing up the outlook. Nonetheless, as long as 139.29 holds, rise from 122.26 is in favor to extend to 50% retracement of 195.86 (2015high) to 122.36 (2016 low) at 159.11, and possibly further to 61.8% retracement at 167.78 before completion. However, firm break of 139.29 will turn focus back to 116.83/122.36 support zone instead.

EUR/JPY Weekly Outlook

After some corrective trading EUR/JPY rebounded strongly to close at 129.25. As it stays below 130.33 resistance, initial bias is neutral this week first. On the upside, break of 130.33 will resume the rebound from 124.61. And by then, EUR/JPY should have also taken out near term falling channel decisively. That would be a strong sign of trend reversal. In that case, further rise should be seen to 133.47 resistance for confirmation. On the downside, break of 127.13 will bring retest of 124.61 low instead.

In the bigger picture, for now, EUR/JPY is holding above 124.08 key resistance turned support. Fall from 137.49 could be proven to be a correction. Decisive break of 133.47 resistance will confirm its completion and should extend the rise from 109.03 (2016 low) through 137.49 high. However, firm break of 124.08 will confirm trend reversal. That is, whole rise from 109.03 (2016 low) has completed at 137.49 already. In that case, deeper fall should be seen back to 61.8% retracement of 109.03 to 137.49 at 119.90 and below.

In the long term picture, at this point, EUR/JPY is staying in long term sideway pattern, established since 2000. Rise from 109.03 is seen as a leg inside the pattern. As long as 124.08 support holds, further rally is in favor in medium to long term through 149.76 high. However, break of 124.08 could extend the fall through 109.03 low instead.

EUR/AUD Weekly Outlook

EUR/AUD rose further to 1.5823 last week before forming a temporary top there and turned sideway. Initial bias is neutral this week first. Further rally is expected as long as 1.5617 minor support holds. Above 1.5823 will target a test on 1.6139/89 resistance zone. However, below 1.5617 will turn bias to the downside for 1.5425 support first.

In the bigger picture, current development suggests that fall from 1.6189 is a corrective move and has completed at 1.5217 already. Key support levels of 1.5153 and 38.2% retracement of 1.3624 to 1.6189 at 1.5209 were defended. And medium term rise from 1.3624 (2017 low) is not completed yet. Break of 1.6189 will target 1.6587 key resistance (2015 high).

In the longer term picture, the rise from 1.1602 long term bottom (2012 low) isn't over yet. We'll keep monitoring the development but there is prospect of extending the rise to 61.8% retracement of 2.1127 to 1.1602 at 1.7488 and above. However, sustained trading below 1.3624 key support should indicate long term reversal and target 1.1602 long term bottom again.
