XAU/USD Struggles for Support

Gold struggles as risk appetite returns amid ceasefire talks. A fall below 1940 forced those hoping for a swift rebound to bail out.

On the daily chart, gold’s struggle to stay above the 30-day moving average suggests a lack of buying power. Sentiment grows cautious as the metal tentatively breaks the psychological level of 1900.

A drop below 1880 could make bullion vulnerable to a broader sell-off to 1850. An oversold RSI attracted some bargain hunters, but buyers need to lift offers around 1940 before they could expect a rebound.

USD/CHF Tests Support

The US dollar edged lower as traders ditched its safe-haven appeal.

The pair met strong support at 0.9260 over the 30-day moving average. A break above the immediate resistance at 0.9340 prompted short-term sellers to cover their positions, opening the door for potential bullish continuation.

A break above 0.9370 could bring the greenback back to the 12-month high at 0.9470. 0.9260 is major support in case of hesitation and its breach could invalidate the current rebound.

Swiss KOF dropped to 99.7, recovery overshadowed by war in Ukraine

Swiss KOF Economic Barometer dropped from 105 to 99.7 in March, worse than expectation of 101.0. The index is now slightly below its long-term average.

KOF said: "The recovery from the economic consequences of the pandemic is now overshadowed by the war in Ukraine. Overall, a moderate development of the Swiss economy can be expected for the near future."

"The decline is primarily due to indicators from the manufacturing sector, followed by those for private consumption. The other indicators included in the barometer show hardly any changes."

EUR/USD Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 1.0992; (P) 1.1064 (R1) 1.1159; More...

Intraday bias in EUR/USD remains neutral first, with focus on 1.1120 support turned resistance. Sustained break there will argue that it's at least correcting the decline from 1.2265. Intraday bias will be back to the upside for 38.2% retracement of 1.2265 to 1.0805 at 1.1363. On the downside, however, break of 1.0943 support will retain near term bearishness, and bring retest of 1.0805 low.

In the bigger picture, the decline from 1.2348 (2021 high) is expected to continue as long as 1.1494 resistance holds. Firm break of 1.0635 (2020 low) will raise the chance of long term down trend resumption and target a retest on 1.0339 (2017 low) next. Nevertheless, break of 1.1494 will maintain medium term neutral outlook, and extending term range trading first.

GBP/USD Daily Outlook

Daily Pivots: (S1) 1.3043; (P) 1.3101; (R1) 1.3152; More...

Intraday bias in GBP/USD remains neutral first, and outlook stays bearish with 1.3297 resistance intact. On the downside, break of 1.2999 low will resume larger down trend from 1.4248. However, firm break of 1.3297 will bring strong rebound through 55 day EMA (now at 1.3315) and above.

In the bigger picture, current development suggests that the up trend from 1.1409 (2020 low) has completed at 1.4248. Decline from 1.4248 could still be a corrective move, or it could be the start of a long term down trend. In either case, deeper decline would be seen back to 61.8% retracement of 2.1161 to 1.1409 at 1.2493. In any case, break of 1.3748 resistance is needed to indicate medium term bottoming, or outlook will stay bearish.

Intraday bias in USD/CHF remains neutral at this point. On the downside, break of 0.9259, and sustained trading below 55 day EMA (now at 0.9261), will extend the fall from 0.9459 to 0.9149 support. On the upside, above 0.9380 minor resistance will bring retest of 0.9459 instead.

In the bigger picture, medium term outlook will be neutral at best as long as 0.9471 resistance holds. Larger down trend could still extend through 0.8756 (2021 low). However, firm break of 0.9471 will argue that whole down trend form 1.0342 (2016 high), has completed with waves down to 0.8756. A medium term up trend should be set up to target 1.0237/0342 resistance zone.

Intraday bias in USD/CAD remains neutral first, but further decline is still expected as long as 1.2645 resistance holds. Corrective pattern from 1.2005 could have completed already. Firm break of 1.2448 support should confirm this bearish case and bring retest of 1.2005. On the upside, nevertheless, break of 1.2645 will turn bias back to the upside for 1.2899 resistance instead.

In the bigger picture, focus stays on 38.2% retracement of 1.4667 (2020 high) to 1.2005 (2021 low) at 1.3022. Sustained break there should confirm that the down trend from 1.4667 has completed after defending 1.2061 long term cluster support. Further rise would then be seen towards 61.8% retracement at 1.3650. However, rejection by 1.3022 will maintain medium term bearishness. Break of 1.2005 will resume the down trend from 1.4667 and that carries larger bearish implications too.
